Frosty Friday!

I would like to dedicate today's post to my good friend Lori over at What Remains Now. One of Lori's greyhounds, Casper, is my cousin. Yeah I know, everyone is my cousin. I blame Grandad..... But I digress. Lori has made this very hot week so much better for me. She writes a fantastic blog about painting, crafting, her life and most importantly, her 3 Greyhounds!! You really should visit if you haven't already met her.

A couple of days ago, Lori wrote about making frozen treats for Casper, Freedom & Nikki. One of the ingredients was pumpkin, which immediately caught Mum's eye. (Mum is obsessed with canned  pumpkin, which can be quite hard to come by in the UK) Mum was inspired! We are in the middle of a mini heatwave here in the UK, and while I show no distress in the heat, Mum is keen to keep me cool.

Out of Lori's ingredients, we only had pumpkin (and I don't like peanut butter) so Mum thought she would improvise.........

......and came up with this. This is a very simple frozen treat made by mixing together skimmed milk and pumpkin. You can use soya or rice milk if you are dairy-intolerant. 300ml of milk and 3 table spoons of pumpkin make two small pie tins of mix.

Oooh wwhat is this?!!

Aaagghh! Mumth  meh thung is thuck...!

Well that went down well!

I'm all cool and relaxed now.....

Mum now has another obsession; Lolly making! Here in the UK we don't have Frosty Paws or anything like it, as far as I know, so these home made treats are fantastic......and very cheap!  They went down so well, Mum made some more....

This is the rather exotic, skimmed milk, coconut and melon...

I only have one left, so I am sending Mum off to the kitchen to make more....not that she needs any encouragement.....  Today we are thinking something with apple....

Thank you very much Lori for a great idea! Stay cool and safe everyone. I'm off to see Ganny, so catch you all later

Deccy xx

thanks for the idea, both Baby and Jake eat pumpking twice a day, and they both love human type frozen treats, this is both in one and i have the ingredients...
Yummy! It's very hot here, so I need to get Momma to make some of those for me.
That is a very tasty frosty treat for K9's, Deccy!
Molly isn't big on veggies like you,, I have to sneak them in her dog food bowl.
But she might like this!
Stay cool through out the heat wave!

That looks oh so refreshing.

Hehe! Everyone is at it! I'll go and check yours out..
Wow there nephew. You don't like peanut butter???? Are you sure you are a Greyhound? :) LOL
Declan, I want to know your secret of getting Mum to do all that kitchen stuff for you. I figure if you tell me, I won't be so easily talked into it for my dogs!
OOW another one for Mum to try out on us when summer comes. Mum says she's never seen tinned pumpkin here, but Mum and Dad eat a lot of fresh pumpkin... Mind you, every time they've given us some chopped up with veggies on our dinner, we've spat it out and left it! :-)

Love from Solo and Krissy xx
Frankie doesn't like Peanut Butter either Deccy! And I very much doubt he would eat pumpkin. Every summer I mean to make some sort of frozen thingy for the dogs but I never get around to it. Glad your Mum is a better Mum than I am :) xxx
Casper is so happy that this post inspired your mum to make you a frosty treat. Freedom, Casper and Nikki all LOVE anything frozen. I love frozen treats because they last a bit...unlike biscuits that seem to disappear without a chew. Since your mum is experimenting, we'll be expecting to see a Chef Deccy post in the future with all your favorite combos.
Hey Deccy!
Wow, that looks yummy! Love how your stuck tongue made a hole in the middle. BOL Guess what!!! My Mom's name is Lori and just yesterday I posted her homemade frozen treat recipe. You might like it too.
Grr and Woof,

Yummmmmmmmmmmy!! That looks pawsome, I felt cooler just watching you. Have fun with Ganny.

Now that looks like it tastes really good. Especially as hot as it is here! We just got back from vacation and are trying to catch up on everyone's blogs.

Decadent Deccy earns his title once again!! Those pupsicles look DEEEEELISH!!!!! We've made mom take notes, we definitely want some of those come summer time!
That looks like it would be a lot better for Bella's waistline than those Frosty Paws. Funny how we will jump at stuff we see in the store but forget we can make them just as good (usually better!) at home.

I will definitely be giving these ideas a shot. Thanks Deccy! Have fun at Ganny's!
Yum, yum...
Some great ideas here! :)
The dogs seems very happy with the food. :) My chihuahua do like that food too... :)
What a neat treat idea! My hounds would love it.
If your mums are fans of pumpkin and coconut, Malaysia is a must-visit! Three days in KL and the rest in Kuching, Sarawak. They'd love it! But not you Decy as Sarawak has quarantine and west Malaysia is not a dog friendly place...

Mum has been to Singapore, but she has always wanted to go to KL and visit the Petronas Towers!
